A MAGICAL DAY...MADISON KATE'S 1ST BIRTHDAY

THE BIG DAY:

Today, I want to share with you, my daughter, Madison Kate’s magical unicorn 1st Birthday Party! March 11, What a magical day it was!! I literally cannot stop smiling! We had the party at our home in Greenwell Springs, LA.

The morning started off with thunderstorms, but the day ended with lots of sunshine, rainbows, and so much love in the air. It seems like God has a way of making the most important days the most perfect days. There was a high chance of rain on my wedding day as well, and I remembered stressing so much only to find the sun shining and clear skies

as I prepared to marry the man of my dreams. I’d like to think that my grandma Mattie looking down from heaven had something to do with that.:)

I get so giddy just thinking about what to say next. Maddy is already one of the happiest kids ever, but on the day of her party she seemed the happiest she had ever been. Her smile lit up the room and she walked all over like she owned the place. It was so adorable to watch her interact with her cousins and friends. Its crazy the amount of awareness such a little body can possess. Its like she knew that all of our family and friends came from far and near just to celebrate her 1st year of life, and she was so happy about it! Its been 2 days since the party and she’s still trying to recover, she partied hard! We are so grateful for everyone who came out to celebrate and all the love they showed her. We appreciate it more than you’ll ever know!

PARTY PLANNING:

I have always had a love for planning and hosting events, and my love for decorating is even deeper. You can only imagine how excited I was to plan my baby girl’s very first birthday! I started actively planning Maddy’s party in January, so I had about 2.5 months to get it together. Can I just say, I had an absolute blast. I could not have pulled off this party without help from my husband, my mom, my in-laws, and some clutch friends who came through the day-of to help me execute every last minute detail.

Pinterest and Etsy both played a huge part in my party planning. There are so many super cute ideas for the unicorn theme, so its very easy to get overwhelmed and carried away. The very first item I purchased was a backdrop for the cake table. I knew I wanted the cake table to be original and filled with intricate details, I wanted it to make a statement. Once I solidified the backdrop, everything else just started to fall into place.

My favorite decor detail was the balloon garland. That was actually one of the first things I pinned when I started my Pinterest board for the party. I absolutely fell in love with everything about it. I am not the craftiest person you’ll ever meet, so I wasn’t sure how I was going to pull it off. I contemplated delegating the task to a balloon expert, but plenty of people convinced me that I could do it myself. I found the balloon garland kit on Etsy from a vendor called Chrissy B Party Shop. They were extremely helpful in aiding me in selecting the appropriate color balloons and also assured me that it was a simple process. The day before the party, my mom and my cousins came over, and we got started. We blew up 100s of balloons with hand pumps, and once that was completed, my mom and I worked diligently on balloon placement. 2.5 hours later, we placed the last balloon, stepped back, and all I could do was smile! I was so pumped we got it done together, and it was definitely a head turning, wow factor in the design.

I had mentioned it as a joke to my husband in the very beginning of the planning process that we should get a unicorn. I said that he could dress like one or we could get an actual pony to make an appearance. Since Maddy was only turning one and wouldn’t be phased by it, we casually dismissed the idea. On Saturday, the day before the party, my mom mentioned that she felt the only thing missing was an actual unicorn. The more I thought about it, the cooler the idea seemed. I began to research different pony party vendors, and I actually lucked up and found one. Imagine calling 5 vendors that were unavailable, then boom, the final one has a cancellation and is now available. It must have been meant! It was a pretty sweet touch and Maddy even got a chance to enjoy the experience alongside the other kids at the party! She partied her little heart out, and all the planning was more than worth it.

Some people may think we went a bit overboard, but she totally deserves the world!:) If I had to do it all over again, I would do it all the exact same. It was simply magical!
