Well, I officially have a 2 year old! I feel a ton of emotions, but I am coming to terms with the fact that my baby girl is growing up. It has been a beautiful journey, and I am loving every moment. I want to thank absolutely everyone that came from far and near to celebrate and make her birthday party so special, she had an absolute BLAST! She smiled, danced, and played…and ate way too much cake, but it was an amazing time! I definitely couldn’t have pulled it off without the help from my family and friends. We truly appreciate all the love you guys showed our precious girl on her big day!
The Theme and Venue:
I have gotten a ton of questions about the details on Maddy’s 2ndBirthday party, and as promised, I will be sharing them here. The party was at our home again this year! The theme for her party was Minnie Mouse and florals, she chose the Minnie part and I HAD to add in flowers. After all, what’s a party without flowers, right? haha
Party Planning:
My love for party planning and decorating runs pretty deep. It is always a good time. Being pregnant with Olivia this time around, the goal was to keep it simple this year, but the more I shopped around, the more décor and activities I ended up adding. I started planning about 3 months in advance and I even attempted to set a budget, but Pinterest and Etsy definitely made that budget go out of the window. My sister in law, Lauren, Jean and my mom definitely came through in the clutch for helping me bring my vision to life. The day of her party, the weather was windy but gorgeous! No matter how much you plan, the day of details always require supportive family and friends to help you efficiently execute, Lord knows I couldn’t have done it alone.
The Décor:
The Minnie Mouse theme is so adorable and also SO easy to get carried away with. Seems like every time I went on Pinterest, I would find ideas to tweak and make my own. I feel as though when you begin deciding on décor details, it is important to figure out what you want your focal points to be. This year, I decided on a glam cake and sweets table and a precious children’s head table.
For the cake and sweets table, we decided on a rose gold, gold, blush, and mauve balloon garland. I wanted it to have a chic feel, so I decided to not go with the typical colors that you would normally see with a Minnie mouse theme party. I was very pleased with the outcome. We ordered the kit from “OhhHowCharming,” and after about 1.5 hours of blowing up 14 feet worth of balloons, my mom went to work and created the most gorgeous balloon garland. Lord knows I couldn’t have done it without her. I also wanted the sweets table to be different from last years, so I decided to use our mirrored buffet instead of a rectangular table with linens to give it a more intimate feel. The balloon garland and the mirrored buffet paired with the gorgeous rose gold drapes from Melange Event Renterie made for the perfect backdrop. The custom Minnie Mouse “Madison” wooden sign, florals, and actual sweets completed the look, it was everything I could have envisioned for my sweet girl and more!
The Activities:
Originally, we weren’t sure how the weather would turn out. The entire week before the party there was between a 60-90% chance of rain which made me extremely nervous. I mean who wants it to rain on the day of their child’s party! I’m sure it was God because the weather was gorgeous, no rain at all! I reserved a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse bounce house. The winds were pretty intense at the beginning of the party which actually caused the bounce house to blow away. LThat was pretty frightening, luckily no one was in it and no one was injured. The company we went with was called Bouncing off the Walls Inflatable Bounce House and Waterslide Rentals, and if I am being honest, I wouldn’t recommend this company. They weren’t very punctual or urgent about re-securing the bounce house and it was extremely obnoxious having to wait HOURS for them to send someone out to resolve the matter.
Luckily, I had some rainy-day activities planned out! We had a coloring station, playdoh section with Disney cutouts, and a bubbles station. I wasn’t sure if the kids would enjoy them or not, but they all seemed to enjoy them a lot, especially Madison. She LOVES playdoh and bubbles equally, so it was hard to get her to do much else.
Celebrating life is a beautiful thing, it’s certainly something I don’t take for granted. I may have gone a little overboard, but my baby girl will only turn 2 once. That’s my rationale and I am sticking to it. Thanks again to everyone who played a part in her special day!
